A small parcel of old vine Shiraz from Lindeman’s Ben Ean Vineyard was selected as a stand out in the cellar and a unanimous decision to bottle it separately was made.

The Hunter Valley’s 2011 vintage was something of a rollercoaster ride for our growers. Following a dry winter, spring brought heavy and persistent rain, resulting in a good fruit set, but also heightening the threat of diseases. Careful vineyard management in keeping the fruit disease free paid off in December as weather turned dry and stayed that way until the end of harvest – bit of a rarity in the Hunter.

Tasting Notes: 2011 Hunter Valley Reserve Shiraz

  1. 4 out of 5

Beautifylly medium bodied, black cherry and plum fruits of great persistence, fine grained tannin and lively acidity

  2. 5 out of 5

This impeccably composed Hunter shiraz exemplifies the captivatingly medium-bodied restraint of the season. Black cherry and plum fruits of great persistence are underlined by well-integrated dark chocolate oak, fine-grained tannins and the signature acid line of the season.

  3. :

Bright, clear crimson-purple; red cherry plum and mulberry skate seamlessly and juicily across the satin-smooth palate, a pinch of spice joining the superfine tannins of the finish. The key word is balance.
