A small parcel of old vine Shiraz from Lindeman’s Ben Ean Vineyard was selected as a stand out in the cellar and a unanimous decision to bottle it separately was made.
The Hunter Valley’s 2011 vintage was something of a rollercoaster ride for our growers. Following a dry winter, spring brought heavy and persistent rain, resulting in a good fruit set, but also heightening the threat of diseases. Careful vineyard management in keeping the fruit disease free paid off in December as weather turned dry and stayed that way until the end of harvest – bit of a rarity in the Hunter.
