Peter and Kay Barnes’ Coombe Rise vineyard is situated on the outskirts of Pokolbin, bordered on one side by the Pokolbin Creek. Planted on sandy loam soils in the early ‘70s, the vines are cane pruned and have naturally low vigour, resulting in crops of around 3 tonnes per acre.
Mild temperatures indicated an outstanding vintage, but 2012 will go down in history as one of the most challenging vintages in modern history. A cool summer followed by set in rain resulted in early hand-picking and bunch sorting.
The colour is bright straw, the aroma is an intense, fresh lemon lime fruit and slight green apple notes. Palate has light and delicate citrus flavours and a hint of freshly cut grass with a slight spritz. Best to drink while young and fresh or cellar for up to 5 years.
