The 2013 vintage saw a diverse range of temperatures across the Hunter Valley. During winter, some good rains supplied very good sub surface moisture, but this was completely lost with significantly below average rainfall during spring and early summer. Despite low rainfall, moderate temperatures allowed good fruit set and veraison development up until New Year. Extreme heat days occurred during the 2nd and 3rd week of January adding to water and fruit ripening stress. Two days of light rain and lower temperatures took the pressure off the final ripening of the Verdelho producing outstanding fruit quality.
Lifted characters of tropical fruits including pineapple, melon, banana, paw-paw and a fun bubble-gum type aroma to finish.
