2011 Hunter Valley Shiraz sourced from mature vines on the historic Ben Ean vineyard this shiraz has heritage. With violet aromas, rich blackberry and ripe cherry fruit with a long textured palate. Intensity of red, plummy fruits coupled with soft and silky yet structural tannins.

Tasting Notes: 2011 Hunter Valley Shiraz

  1. :

“Lovely bright marooon red purple colour like so many good Hunter 2011 reds. Nice colour that. The sweet vanilla oak protrudes through a fraction on the nose but it can’t hide that boysenberry Hunter fruit deliciousness. The sweet oak is noticeable through the palate too, though you get the sense it will just become a sweetener with bottle age. Tannins are sandy and dry to finish.

Good Hunter Shiraz in the purple, mid weight, pretty and extremely youthful mould, this should evolve very nicely. The oak is a bit blunt at present though not a deterrent. Good.

  2. :

Although 11 was not lauded all over the country, there were some exceptions, notably the Hunter and its reds, many of which have impressed. This wine plays the three Rs (Ridiculously Representative of Region) and delivers a textbook nose of redcurrants and leather slightly overplayed by charry oak. Medium bodied and savoury, it’s got all the charming earthiness that you require of the Hunter; good weight, tannins and really chiselled acids keeping the package fresh. Finishes with a licorice, dark fruit and a lasting spice sensation. Good wine.

Bright purple-red; a barrel selection was made after 16 months in French oak. It is a beautifully modulated and structured example of Hunter Valley Shiraz; plum, black cherry and a hint of spice; the oak is not the least intrusive.
